Unfortunately it's not real good news.
Everyone makes scar tissue after surgery but some people make a lot more than others. The scar tissue will build up to a point and then stop. Then you are left with whatever pain/deficit that you have. I had a disectomy/laminectomy 2 years ago and I have scar tissue that is infringing on the L5-S1 nerve root. The pain is worse some days than others, not because the scar tissue is still growing...it may be the way I slept, the way I turn, etc. I can't even find a pattern for the increased pain. Surgery is not usually done for scar tissue although you may find some surgeons who will operate just for that reason. You take a chance that the scar tissue from a repeat surgery could be worse than the initial surgery. I, like your husband, put off taking pain meRAB as long as I could. One day I just decided that my quality of life was awful....I started taking pain meRAB and it has improved. My doctor and I are still working on the right corabo of meRAB for me. Only your hubby will know when he has had enough. Good luck to you and your husband. You will also be very much affected with this whole issue just like my husband is with me.
