if the intake gasket on my 3400 gm 2001 oldsmobile silouette leaks can it

get into the oil? i have water in the oil and oil in the water i would think its a head gasket problem but the mechanic says no. could the intake gasket failing cause this? also the valves rattle when the car is started after sitting for several hour but then quiets down when engine warms up . whats going on? can this also be attributed to this gasket as well? please help thank you.
 
Yes the intake gasket can cause all the symptoms your describing. And it's a good thing your mechanic knew about this because it's frequently miss diagnosed as a head gasket. I believe there is an updated version of the intake manifold gasket which will supposedly fix the problem. I'm sure your mechanic knows to follow the torque sequence and torque specs. when installing it, as well as check the manifold with a straight edge to see if it's warped. Because if he fails to do so the gasket won't last long. The valve rattle your hearing is due to contamination in the oil, and if you continue to drive it like it is you'll cost your self allot more money due to bearing wear and wear to other expensive internal engine components. I'd also have your mechanic check for TSB"s and recalls regarding the manifold gaskets. Good luck and hope this helps.
 
Yes the coolant can get into the oil through this gasket. The only way to be sure if the head gasket is good is to do a compression test on each cylinder and look for blow by and lack of compression.These motors are known for the intake gaskets going bad and needs to be fixed before it damages the motor further. That gasket can make the head gasket go bad also so it might be a good idea to do both of them at the same time to be sure that the head gaskets are not weakened to the point that they fail soon.
