would have traded Kazmir? Duquette came on as GM in mid-'03 and stuck around through '04. I'm not sure why they let a loser run their team, in place of a guy who made crappy trades, but at least had some success as Mets GM. Steve Phillips sounds kind of clueless all the time on ESPN, but I think ninety percent of baseball fans, even at that time, wouldn't have made the deal. He was regarded as high a prospect as Reyes and Wright in the early-2000's. The only good to come out of the trade is we may have not gotten Santana otherwise, because the Wilpon's may have been to pay him 23 million per year.
