If someone laid sod down would it be possible to plant seeds amongst it and have

What kind of seeds? More grass or something like flowers? Trying to grasp what your asking here, it would seem if you wanted grass somewhere you would put sod, if you wanted "something" else to grow then you would cut the sod to accommodate whatever else you wanted. Hmmm.
