If someone broke their ankle in a sporting accident, how long would they have to

stay in hospital? not just a fracture, but not such a bad break to break the skin, a clean, but very painful, break?

would they be allowed to return home that day? or the day after?

you go to the ER, they would put a temporary cast on it (a splint with an ACE bandage) and then you go to an orthopedist for a real cast (fiberglass, aircast, boot....)

If it doesn't break the skin and no surgery is warranted, they will be casted and sent home.

I broke my ankle in three place's and I stayed in the hospital one day and that could have been because the operating room was not available. But I would say one day, two at the most.
