Union Pacific vows to fight high-speed rail

but i agree for the most part
in most cases, automobiles are more convenient than rail car in short distances outside of heavily urban populated cities

do we even have the technology for that?

if all they did was make a big loop around the US that would be SWEET

i wish trains were more widely used

the last/only time i've used a train (other than a city subway) was from LA to San Diego. shit was awesome. plenty of room, had a little AC jack to charge phones and shit, bathrooms were fucking HUGE, you could easily get up and walk around

i was alone, but if i had friends, it'd be great. get some beers and just chill and watch the countryside

that and it was only $26

how did they fuck over the railroads exactly, when the government spent a horrendous amount of money building a coast-to-coast rail system?

nga you serious? Railroads were given enough unjustified benefits during westward expansion to last them centuries.

I think they should do an elevated maglev monorail down the center of each major interstates median that takes you to the next major interchange. At the interchanges you drive your car into a toboggan shaped computerized maglev sled and it takes you and your car to your destination.
Maybe even have it interface with your cars nav system so you can bypass the interchanges and continue straight through.
