Where did you get that number? On the website it says $38 and it doesn't say anything about subsidies.

I dunno why it took 3 pages for it to be spelled out, but I guess "America is too fucking big" was implying the same thing

This thread again?

Again I'll say it...wanna create jobs, stimulate the economy, and everything else? Lets completely redo our rail and road infrastructure. It's probably one thing that this country desperately needs.

Flying would present way more bullshit with waiting, delayed flights, luggage, way more expensive, etc etc

After renegotiating union contracts and consolidation many of them are profitable. Is Amtrak profitable?

High speed rail would be fucking awesome.

and who the fuck could think that a HSR system would be good in the US?

The only place it could possibly work is the northeast....but no fucking chance for the entire country

read the history, then we can talk
the gov kinda fucked local trains...but the amount of subsidy they gave over the years MORE than made up for it

trains sucked because of greedy idiots, and shitty government
ideally from a resource and efficiency/effective standpoint, they are "better" than cars.

it's $100 round trip (plus fees) already on southwest, virgin airlines, etc... Plus the high speed train on the east coast is NOT only $50, it's 100-150.

NY - Washington $99 one way
