High-speed rail (HSR) is a type of passenger rail transport that operates significantly faster than the normal speed of rail traffic. Specific definitions include 245 km/h (152 mph) for upgraded track and 295 km/h (183 mph) or faster for new track by the European Union.[1] In Japan Shinkansen lines run at speeds in excess of 260 km/h (160 mph) and are built using standard gauge track with no at-grade crossings.[2] In China, high-speed conventional rail lines operate at top speeds of 350 km/h (220 mph),[3] and one maglev line reaches speeds of 430 km/h (270 mph).

You could get anywhere in like a few hours.
 
not so much about legalizing it, or not so much about it helping the budget crisis?
 
China has over 4x the population of the states, and it's crammed all into an area slightly larger than Texas.

In other words, they have the population density to support it

Stimulate the economy with money we don't have; you know about as much about economics as most politicians.
 
yep, but US Steel, Ford, and Standard Oil pretty much put and end to rail for personal transportation so they could market the automobile

it is a pretty shady story involving the US gov and the three big companies (or the remnants of the companies) when rail stopped and cars started
 
No thanks just re-build some more of these olden Gem's they would get the job done just as good if not better! Not to mention looking a hell of a lot better!
