one has a BA in History not Law? At most British universities, if a student earns a BA in say History or English, and from there wishes to pursue a career as a barrister, how long does it take as far as attending a full time postgraduate course in law? Which postgraduate degree in law does one need to be a barrister who tries criminal procedings? How long does one also study at one of the Inn's in London? And then, how long does the young barrister shadow a full fledged member of the bar before they finally can trie a case?

Have at look at the Bar Council's website (the organisation that governs barristers) - it should give you all the info you need.
