the election? Dow Jones 11/08: 9000
Dow Jones 2/09: 7114
DROP = 28%!
mc93- the reality is that Bush inherited Clinton's recession and we had 6 years of incredible prosperity. The financial crisis now was built on Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and other brilliant democrats who forced banks to make loans to people who couldn't afford them- Bush tried from 2003-6 to regulate Fannie Mae but democrats stonewalled(!!) We actually elected people to government who created the mess in the first place!!!!!!!
zerueeka- I'll let the Dow Jones speak for itself. Remember, the DJI is forward looking, so it's ANTICIPATING the future- it does NOT reflect what happened during the month that Obama was in office, unless what he does (or doesn't do) affects the future...

The drop is the result of the mess that George left behind. Eight years of sleeping at the switch takes time to fix. By any chance are you a Republican? Have a nice day.

Since you are so good with dates and all you'll see that in 2000 Bill CLinton left a SURPLUS of $236 billion.This is great because he inherited a DEFICIT from His predecesor..George H. W. Bush. Then Bush Jr. Takes office and 8 years later (2008) we once again have a DEFICIT of over 3 TRILLION.....It took Clinton 8 years to reverse the last deficit and you expect Obama to solve Bush's huge deficit in 1 month.....
You are taking those little pills that make all the colors funny..aren't you...admit it.

So you are saying if a Republican president had been elected..he would have miracuously made all this wall street and real estate greed..go way??That this is Obama's fault?..Really in one month he created this mess? ...
Maybe that 6 years of prosperity you point to under Bush was built on a false foundation...i.e. interest only loans, hyper inflated housing market...followed by foreclosure, bankruptcy etc..

There are several factors affecting the Dow Jone's and S&P 500. We shouldn't put all the blame on Obama. Lower earning reports, less than stellar economic reports and sagging investor confidence has affected the Dow Jone's.

Each time Obama has made a speech the Dow Jone's has dropped. This is because Obama has painted a gloomy picture each time he speaks. Because of this he sinks investor confidence. If he talked in a manner that boosted investor confidence it would be reflected in th stock market.

its kind of funny that he boosted hope in his campaign and now that he is president he is more pessimistic.

This question was asked about a year ago:
"If Obama wins the Presidency what will happen to the Stock Market and the Realestate Market?"
I thought kdood's answer was helpful:
"The market drop on Friday was about more than just a poor jobs report. It was about Obama winning the Iowa Caucus. Obama wants to raise the Capital gains rate to 28% (currently 15%) and raise the dividend rate to 40% (currently at 15 % for qualified dividends). He also wants to roll back the tax cuts for the wealthy and for companies (the main investors of the market). More and more people on the street are starting to talk about the markets being unhappy with Obama as a potential president.

Sorry to say it but if Obama wins the presidency expect a lower stock market for the next few years.
