If my LG plasma is only 720p, how come Blu-ray movies looks so much better than

movies regular HD channels? I hooked up a BD player via HDMI and the picture quality is comparable to the 1080p sets I've seen at stores. If what I'm watching on cable is only 720p and my tv can only display so many pixels, how come watching Blu-Ray makes that much of a difference? Thanks!
