If my friends bring weed into my car, and keep it on them at all times, who is at fault?

I forgot to mention that I live in California. Also, if I were to get a medical marijuana card (I am 17) with my parents consent, I could have weed and paraphenalia in my car and not get in trouble right?
Just recently, I got a citation because I was at a beach with a bunch of loud, drunk kids, and a cop pulled into the parking lot. I was one of the 6 sober people there and was driving for some friends. Basically, the cop ended up searching cars and making the drivers call their parents (none of the drunk kids got in trouble for some reason). They ended up finding a bunch of stuff (a bong, pipe, grinder, some weed etc.) in my car, and I got in trouble for it. That isn't the problem though, because I know that I was in the wrong to a certain extent. However, I will most likely be on probation, and what I am curious about is if I got pulled over for some reason, and one of my friends in my car has weed on them...am I still going to be the one getting in trouble, or will they? I know this is a stupid question, but all of my friends smoke, and atleast one of them will usually have something on them. So if paraphinalea or weed itself is on their person, and not lying around in my car...who's at fault? Also, couldn't I technically say that I didn't know they had anything on them when they got in my car? Please help, I need to know how to deal with my friends and what risks I am putting myself in for driving them while they carry anything. (I know I should just tell them they can't get in my car if they have something on them, but that's a little bit unrealistic)

It's simple, keep it out of your car. That includes your friends if you even suspect it. There is no reason for you to pay for their weed in the form of a fine, lawyer fees, jail and memories.

You may think this is a tough decision, but it is very realistic for you to not bend to your friends illegal habit. Perhaps it is their bad decisions that require them to have you drive them around.
Sounds like they are using you my friend. Stand up and tell them no.

First always answer a cop truthfully, take it from some one who knows and second in this situation your friend is at fault, BUT natural instinct when pulled over when carrying anything is get off your person, odds are if reasonable suspicion and they search car...one of the people has shoved something down the seat...making you at fault (unless admitted by someone else) p.s. people who smoke pot are VERY obvious to cops due to tell tale signs.
