If my friend is selling a stolen Boost Mobile fone would i get in jail for buying it?

one of the guys on my street been selling used Boost fones, he always got blackberrys but i think they stolen cause he also selling purses and iphones that look used.

he dont have a job either.

my question is, what if i buy this fhone and try to hook it up if it turns out to be stolen?
