If my bank cannot find the original loan papers, can I dispute the loan?

So this is not for a mortgage or anything - it is for one of those store cards. I got it like 6 years ago and then the loan was sold off to another banks - hsbc. I have paid off the principal really but what i owe is interest that keeps piling up on new interest. So my question, can i ask the bank to show me the ORIGINAL loan papers I signed? And if they cannot come up with it, can i dispute the loan? I mean they do need to come up with the original paper work somehow.
Instead of giving me third degree about loans and minimum payments etc, just tell me what my options are legally. I know what debt is and i know what people try to do to get out if. I am asking for options here, not for your blessings or personal opinions on loans.
