...can i get out of it ? The apartment building i live in was sold to another person. I wanted to use the old landlord as a reference since we want to move out in a month. He said he would give a reference but told us we were still obligated by the year to year lease we signed with him. According to this we have to give 3 full months notice before we can vacate. If we do vacate before the 3 months we are responsible to pay the rent until the 3 months are up or the apart is rented. What i am wondering is since this lease was signed with the old landlord, are we still under the same terms of lease with the new landlord even though we have not signed any leasee with him? I am under the impression a contract is only good between the two parties who signed it.
