If markets actually worked to make our society a better place for all, why would we ever need regulations?

How wise were the founding fathers in granting the exclusive authority to promote the general welfare, regulate commerce, and raise and collect taxes for those purposes to none other than the People's branch of government- Congress? If the authors of the constitution thought in any way that markets would do a better job, why does Article I, Section 8 of our constitution even exist?

To make sure that markets are able to function.

Do you know what the word "regulation" means? If you did, you would not have gotten the absurd idea that markets and regulation are somehow mutually exclusive.

Exactly. People keep screaming about free markets, but unfortunately free markets often lead to greed and corruption and only serve to widen the gap between the haves and the have nots.
I wish it wasn't true, but greed rules therefore we have no choice but to regulate that decidedly un-American behavior.
