If making a brick edging around a garden bed...what is the best way to make it...

...hold solid? was thinking of just placing the bricks vertically inside the clay dirt and filling the clay dirt around the bricks where they only stick out a bit, and then filling the gaps with sand..

however, the bricks are still movable when i kick them, maybe they will settle in after some good rainfalls.. i dont know.

but is there another way to do this that isnt too much trouble?

cement along the bottom and then spread some in between the bricks would be better or do you think the method i have now will work after it gets settled in?

why and how so ?
