...it with economics? It is seen as inappropriate to push your values on someone through religion, but then one of the reasons put forward for universal health care is that it is a moral issue. This to me is essentially using economics to push your values onto another person who may not agree with you. Why the disparity?
 
We push our morals on people all the time and it's perfectly legal to do so. Our moral belief is that murder is bad for society, so it's illegal. However, there's a rational reason for believing so aside from any religious precepts. If there are no non-religious motivations for a moral basis of law, then that is forbidden by the constitution as an "establishment of religion".
 
In my opinion, the bottom line is that everyone should have quality, affordable health care. I think when the word "moral" is used to describe the type of issue at hand, it is to say that it is unfair for one citizen to have the option of seeing a doctor when they have so much as a fever, while their neighbor may have some sort of ongoing medical condition but can't have it treated because they lack the funds or their employer does not provide them with benefits. It is morally wrong to let some of your fellow citizens go without the health care they need and know there's a chance they may become seriously ill, or die.

I think you have it wrong.

It's not ok to push your religion on someone. You can put your values on them whenever you want. You just can't force them to believe in your religion.
 
Challenging economic values does not deeply upset people.
Challenging religious (or non-religious) values can deeply upset people.
This is why.
