You can apply now, before you enlist. That would be the smart way to do it.

If for some reason you want to go in enlisted your wait until you go to boot camp will depend on the job you pick. It could be a few weeks, a few months or a year from now.

Depends on you, you can leave on the same day or up to a year in the delayed entry program

Good luck, my recruiters (navy) told me that they aren't recruiting anymore due to the surplus of recruits recently, apart from the nuclear jobs (which require a very high ASVAB score).

Anyway I swore in in May of this year and my ship date was scheduled for February of 2010. The reason DEP (Delayed Entry Program) is so long now is because of the surplus of recruits as I stated before. This is probably due to people trying to get jobs because of the bad economy right now.

It depends on when the next boot camp session is for the branch your going into.

On the officer part, you need a job that is compatibible with the officer ranks.
