If I move to NY or CA and what to be a cool-hip Liberal: Must I convert to

I might move for job......

before I make the final decision.... I just wanted to make sure I can fit in with liberals in those two cool States
In the mid-west here I am consider a pretty cool liberal with my fist

but maybe in CA and NY .... being cool might mean bending over
