citizenship of Pakistan? We are both US citizens and we both live here, but I was born here and he was born in Okara, Pakistan. My family has been asking me what would happen in terms of my citizenship if we were to marry, seeing as how he still holds Pakistani citizenship. I told my family that a lot of Islamic countries automatically consider the wives and children of their male citizens as citizens of said country in their own right, but we had always known this to be true of certain Middle Eastern countries and had never thought about it applying to Pakistan.
If and when we do get married, there is no questioning that the wedding would happen in Pakistan. This is of my insistence. Seeing as how we would already be in Pakistan at the time (although not permanently) and that I would love to have dual citizenship if it would be at all possible, what laws govern this? Is Pakistani citizenship based on residency, like in the US, or birth, or marriage, or what? How would I go about getting citizenship?
Personally, I would love to have the citizenship, but this is really more of a question that has been intriguing my mother. I guess when you are preparing to give your only daughter away to someone from a totally foreign culture and religion, you worry. Anything to quell her curiosity would be nice, so that she will stop asking me.
You mean why would I want dual citizenship? It might become useful in the future, I don't know. I've always thought it would be neat to have the ability to effortlessly enter multiple countries.
But, seriously, I love the Desi culture. To me, it would just be an amazing thing to be able to hold Pakistani citizenship because Pakistan is so intriguing to me. I know everyone in my country tells me I should be afraid of these people, but I am not. It would just be amazing to be able to visit his family without any visa hassle.
