If i have an iphone 3, can i just buy an iphone 4 digitizer and make the phone an iphone 4?

if i buy an iphone 3, and switch the digitizer on it to one for an iphone 4,.. and maybe somehow buy a broken iphone 4 just for the sides.. would that even work?
