ASVAB? ? I have a BS in poli sci and was wondering if I needed to take the ASVAB if I were to join the military. It's definitely something I've been thinking about more seriously the past year or so (it's been in the back of my mind since my brother joing usmc 10 years ago). I will be taking the LSAT in Feb and JAG was something I'm considering as opposed as to going directly into law school.

i think you have to be an actual lawyer to be a JAG officer (or at least all the ones i've ever seen were)....and yes you need to take the asvab still. a degree does not equal military aptitude.

Regardless of you education, you take the same tests as a high school drop-out. Just because you have a diploma doesn't mean you can pass the tests. I''ve seen a lot of PhD's fail a simple test, because they spent too much time looking for hidden meanings in the questions when there are none. I've also seen high school drop-outs pass these same tests with flying colors.

Yes, the ASVAB isn't to determine if you're smart, but it determines what areas you're smart in. If a person wants to go into maintenance, but they score poorly in that section then they will more than likely be sent to an area that they scored higher in.

yes you still have to take the ASVAB. It is a job placement test and will show which MOSs you are most qualified for according to the military.

Ive seen people with Masters Degrees fail the ASVAB.
