If I eat quickly, don't leave a mess, and don't ask for any refills, should I

Yes! You always need to leave a tip!!! The waitress still took your order and brought your drinks and food. I've never been a waitress, but I still feel strongly about this!

Not unless you ordered to the kitchen directly and got your own meal too and took your plate and cutlery to be washed and prepared the table for the next customer.

Heck just leave a couple of bucks.

No, YOU should not require a tip FROM the SERVER. And if you eat that fast and are keeping such a close eye on what you do or do not order so badly JUST to not have to LEAVE a tip, you are one pathetic soul...

If a waiter or waitress took your order, brought your food and took away your dirty plates...then YES, you should leave them a tip. I have personally wiped off tables when I have sat down, but that does not relief me from the idea of leaving a tip. Tipping is subjective though. Some people feel obligated to leave a tip no matter what. I tip according to service. Even the quality of the food doesn't reflect my tip, as the waiter did not cook it. I have left very good tips and have left none what-so-ever. It depends on service...not on whether I am a neat eater or not.

Did you get your own food and drink? Did you get your own ketchup/mustard/other condiments? Do you realize how little a waitress makes per hour and that they rely on tips to live?
