If I download a game add-on for Grand Theft Auto 4, can I still play the original game?

Like If I have The Lost and the Damned and I download Ballad of Gay Tony, can I still play The Lost and The Damned?

If you have a saved game then you can just load it up and play it. If not, when you start a new game it will give you the option to choose either TLAD, TBOGT or the regular game.
