If I buy a vehicle in one state and take it down to Mexico, do I have to register it

in my home state? If I purchase a vehicle in, say, Texas but live in Pennsylvania, do I have to register the car in Pennsylvania before I can bring the car down to Mexico? Or can I leave on the Texas plates, get it insured, and drive down even though I don't have a Texas address? I have a student visa and go to school in Mexico.

I do not have a Texas address and the reason I'd want to buy it in Texas is because Penn is too far of a drive. My other option is buying it in California and using my sister's address. Would this be problematic since it's my sister who lives in California and not me?
