If I buy a blackberry online what would I have to do to activated to verizon wireless ?

Okay so I have an Alias 2 but Now I want a Blackberry Pearl if i buy one online and get it , how would i activated or what will I have to do so that it can take place of my Alias ?????? thats really confusing to me can someone explain to me the procedure to this PLEASE I would really appreciated. Thank You
