Are you in the US? If you are, then good luck with accounting. Too many accounting students and not enough jobs to employ them. The industry is currently being saturated with tons of recent graduates. You're better off studying something in the healthcare field.
*BTW, this is not a result of the recession. The industry is actually bombarded with thousands of recent students/graduates.
Addition: Oh please CoachT, just because a few articles say that things are great in accounting doesn't mean that they are. A couple of my friends who were working for accounting firms were laid off recently. A lot of my peers who recently graduated from school could not find work in the accounting field. These journalists just write based on trends and analyses manufactured by other people. They're not the ones who are in the trenches pounding the pavement struggling to find a job. They don't know, neither do you.
BTW, virtually every business student who I know or acquainted to, which is a lot of people, are either accounting students, studying for the CPA, passed the CPA and are looking for work, or already in the field. The industry is saturated.
I know this sounds pessimistic, but it's the truth. I do hope those articles are correct. But, it sure doesn't seem that way.
