If I add a little black acrylic paint to white gesso will i have grey gesso?

I know that gesso is acrylic based but am not sure if it is the same as acrylic paint so am not certain that I can mix them. I wish to cover a canvas in grey gesso but would prefer not to buy a bottle of grey if I can do it by mixing some paint into the white gesso.

Try it, what can it hurt? I would only tint as much as you need, rather than doing the whole jar of gesso, though.
