oh and also include in the assumption that the amount of petroleum used for synthesizing stuff like plastics is small in
comparison to the amount used for energy
some possible reasons
1. it would reduce the income of OPEC countries
1.a. Their rich would need to get a honest job for once
1.b. they can't repeat the oil embargo of the 1970's
1.c. they would have less influence politically
1.d. if they fought among themselves, we could treat them like poor african countries that fight among themselves, i.e. ignore them (yeah its a cruel idea)
