biblical edicts into laws?
anti-homosexual legislation based upon specific bible verses, for one.
repeated attempts to get christian creationism taught in science class, for two.

Jesus fulfills the law. Therefore, your homosexual justification campaign has already lost. Applying the same facts about Jesus, science itself lost in its attempt to disprove Jehovah. See how wonderfully that works? Thanks for asking. IUts been a pleasure teaching you. John 3:16 God Bles

To save us from vile effections which bring upon those who support or indulge in such debauchery all kinds of chaos, havoc and disease.
There is nothing more abominable than a homosexual which the Word of God explains as one who is given over to a reprobate mind:
Rom 1:21-32

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
KJV

Remember what you allow yourself to think, see, hear, say and do literally set into motion Almighty God’s
creative powers that form the matrix of life’s reality you find yourself now walking; so knowing this practice each day focusing your whole attention on your movements whether thoughts, sight, sounds, words or deeds.

It's the conundrum of the "believing" mind in that what it is looking for is security. Humans seek safety and success by figuring out rules of cause and effect, and this usually works to keep you from getting eaten by predators, dying in an accident etc. So the notion that security is available without following rules is contrary to how we have evolved to operate. Thus Paul's message of saved by grace is completely lost and everyone turns all of Paul's writings into a set of rules that they not only impose on themselves but on others. Thus modern legalists/fundamentalists have become the new Pharisees. And remember the woes Jesus pronounced on them saying that they travel the length and width of the earth and cross oceans to make a convert who they turn into a twice over disciple of Hell as they themselves are. The Christian message of grace has only ever been embraced and understood by a few and no one is quicker to kill these and call them heretics than the fundamentalist believers.

It's a rather desperate attempt to keep *themselves* from "sinning."

See, they figure that if everybody is forced to behave as their holy book says, then there won't be any "sin" around for them to see and be tempted by. And the same "forcing" that applies to other people will apply to them, too...they don't think they're strong enough to "avoid temptation," so they want to wipe out temptation.

It's really weakness and lack of confidence in their own ability to "not sin" that drives it.

Peace.

Moral Guidelines are the foundation of a strong society. I know you don't believe this, but morals come from the laws of God. In order to maintain the strength of our society, God's laws are key.

Christians are saved by the grace of God and the end of the law is faith that leads to righteousness.

The perception that is stated "christians...make biblical edicts into laws" is untrue. Instead we are raising the standard of righteousness and goodness that does not come just from the law. Those laws came from God which for Christians represent his standards and reflect his holy nature which wars against sin and evil.

Rampant unchecked sin in a society destroys that society.

Yale and Harvard were both built to train preachers of the gospel. Do you think that Yale taught creationism? YES they did. If they don't anymore it is only because of the "Rampant Unchecked Sin" that has destroyed our society.

Anymore examples?

We cannot be saved by law because all have sinned and fall short. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, alone. Jesus said he came to uphold the law, but save us by grace. We are not living in the age of law, we are living in the age of grace. The law still exists as God's standard, one we cannot meet, so our salvation comes via the completed work of Jesus Christ, which is given freely, as a gift alone, and not earned through law.

Laws are given by God for the purpose of structuring society so that all can live rightly and morally. The children of Israel were newly freed and needed to learn how to live as free people within Godly guidelines. The same is true for Christians today. Jesus said all the laws and the prophets are summarized in the law of love: loving God with all that you have and are and loving your neighbor as yourself.

Regarding the examples you mentioned, when there is a conflict with God's way of life and society's we will back God's way. For instance, God created us as heterosexual and regards any other sexual choice or behavior as sin. Regarding creationism, it's not Christian, it's God's truth.

Wow, good question. I'd like to know that too.

Edit: To the ignorants that don't know....homosexuality laws. Geez, where have you been living? Under a rock?
