If California votes yes on Prop 8, it will be considered a shameful time in history.

the government shouldn't care if two men want to poz each other

nor should they give them economic benefits to celebrate their cornholding officially

nor should they give economic benefits to heterosexual couples

here's the solution
no gay marriage. this is not an infringement on anyone's rights. gays can't marry the same sex and neither can i- i don't have any more rights than they do, i just happen to like girls. likewise, a gay man can marry a gay woman or whatever combination- you don't have to prove you like chicks to get married. in my eyes, the law is already equal. however, i do think that gay couples should get all the recognized rights that straight couples do. i don't think anyone is against state recognized civil unions. it's all essentially the same, and both sides benefit. this whole argument seems to be about nomenclature more than anything and it's silly

same-sex civil unions / domestic partnerships are already recognized in the state of california and have equal protections / benefits under state law

that's a real compelling and mature argument you've got there. i'll have to reconsider my position

so what's the big deal? why does what has been considered 'marriage' for so long have to be changed? my understanding of the issue was that gay people wanted the rights of a spouse (taxes, etc.)

those rights are already protected under the california domestic partnership bill signed into law by grey davis, effective 2005

these rights are limited to the state income tax benefits, estate, insurance, etc

no same-sex marriage is recognized under federal law for the purposes of federal income tax benefits, etc.

btw I love to fuck my boyfriend in the ass, I sent the video to your parents and labeled it marriage dvd. I'm sure they will enjoy it.
