If Atlas Shrugged was never written by Ayn Rand, would there be liberals in 2010?

Didn't she make them up completely in this masterpiece? If it wasn't for loveable characters such as Dr. Ferris, James Taggart, Wesley Mouch and Balph Eubanks, would liberals exist in the United States?
