If an R&S atheist & R&S Christian shared a leaky lifeboat, would they just argue...

...about God until it sank? Rather than, say, trying to cooperate in finding a way to fix the leak?

Maybe this is a poor way to ask my question, though.

I really wanted to ask about atheists & Christians and the challenge of addressing global population growth, global hunger & global warming.

But the leaky lifeboat fits better in the space for the question somehow.

Any answers?

Whatever, in said situation I'm totally using the tongue of whoever feels the need to argue about something not of imminent importance to plug the leak. Problems solved with a single blow :)

The atheist would realize that the boat was going sink and would become a Christian in order to invoke God's help. Either that would happen or the Christian would just make the water part and walk with the atheist to shore.

if we were around each other in RL i wouldn't want to talk about religion especially if the boat we are on is leaking....

as far as global population growth, people need to stop making kids on accident, there are far too many people in the world.

One example would be the stem cell reasearch, one side wants to cure diseases and save lives, the other is arguing whether a cell is a human being. Or the AIDS issues in Africa - you have one side teaching about safe sex and distributing condoms and the other side (well the Pope to be exact) saying the condoms are a sin and contribute to AIDS. I could probably find many more examples of how religion hinders progress (it's not exactly on the topic of hunger and global warming, but close enough methinks).

Even if it was in the brink of sinking, I shall flick a diamond to fill the gap in the wall, and continuing arguing as if it was a Trojan war.

I really think that they would put their differences aside and work together for the sake of both their lives.

MARANATHA! Come, Lord Jesus, COME!

Overpopulation - we can either 1) nuke all the extra people or 2) start colonizing space, and building cities on the oceans

Hunger - It's to say how we might fix this one

Global Warming - cut back on fossil fuels, find better energy sources, and try to go green

I shared a foxhole with a atheist. Believe it or not, but it is possible to get along without arguing. If an atheist isn't open to the Word of God, then the best thing to do is just live it as an example to them. This is where most people do things wrong.

Capitalist christians don't like the answer to those problems...but here goes

Limit reproduction to 2 children/family.
Spread the wealth worldwide...instead of within a few controlling countries
Switch to solar/hydrogen power and reduce the use of fossil fuels.
Recycle
Instead of dumping food in the ocean when the market prices go down, use the food to feed the starving.
Teach people to be self sufficient.

It's likely I could jump out of the boat and survive, and the atheist could keep the boat and drown. So the real question is would I be kind enough to teach the atheist how to survive, too?

Yes, if they promised good sport on shore during the killing ritual.

This is one R&S Catholic Christian who has no problem with R&S atheists. I respect their right to believe what they choose, and with only a few very rare exceptions, they have done likewise for me.

I think that we could both figure out a way to plug that leak and then share the boat in peace until help arrive. And in any event, I'd much rather share the life raft with an atheist than the average sharkbai. . .I mean, fundamentalist.
