if an author of a book writes situations and use peoples real names, what will happen?

can an author of a book write a story, but use the people they know real names? like for example: i'm writing about a girl who lives in the city. one day i meet lauren conrad. (but lets pretend lauren isnt famous, she is just a regular girl in real life) i write all things about lauren. things that are true but also my opinions about her.
would that be okay to use her full name like first and especially last? or would it be a good idea to like change the person's last name?
would they be able to sue me if i use their real name without permission?

To be on the safe side you should ask them first if they are okay with you using their last names! If they arent ask if they want to change their whole name or just last.

If I were you, I would just change it. Who knows whether she can sue you or not. No offense or anything, as a reader I would be a little wierded out if Lauren Conrad was a character in your book...
