...electricity what books would be helpful ..? What books would be helpful to gain a good enough general framework
to launch into whatever more advanced field a person eventually decides to explore?

"Electronics for Dummies" seriously its a great beginners guide to electronics. I reference it from time to time and I have an A.S. in Electronics. I really do recommend this book and from there it will give you other sources to check out depending on your interest. Plus since I looked it up for price I found it online for free and it's word for word same as my textbook.
