If a guy is dating a few different girls, can he wind up selecting you?

I can tell he is dating a few women, due to the amount of times we have went out, only twice in two months. We haven't been out in six weeks now. He said he hopes we go out soon. We keep in touch almost everyday, via text or email. He shares his poetry with me and the poetry is kind of lonely sounding. Due to some stuff that I can see, I can tell he is dating a few different women or at least someone special he likes who he isn't sure likes him back. He isn't shy, but I can tell he's insecure. I tried asking him out on a 3rd date, and he didn't seem interested enough, so I canceled. Could he wind up selecting me, or is he definitely not into me and he won't wind up selecting me as he won't change his mind? Oh, he doesn't have a girlfriend, I don't think, as I've been to his house briefly. Thx.
