i would shoot them with regular rounds and proceed to beat the ones who didnt get knocked down right away in the face with the butt of the shotgun
 
can i shoot bean bags? If their was a big group of gang members literally beating the crap out of a guy in a restaurant can i legally take my shotgun out of my truck and load it with rubber rounds with OC and or bean bag shot to control the situation when its life or death for the man?

To answer your question, Yes you can!! Their are three legal doctrines you could cite. One is the "Castle" doctrine. The other is "lesser of two evils" doctrine. There is also the "Principle of double effect" which is half religious, half law.
