idle problem on 1998 Cadillac Deville?

When I come to a stoplight or stop sign, the car kind of "hiccups". In other words, it is not rough idling or stumbling. It is smooth but it sounds like it is missing every1- 5 seconds. I doubt it is a bad sparkplug or injector because there is no rhythm, just random hiccups every few seconds at idling. When I step on the gas sometime it hesitates but once it get moving, everything runs fine.

I changed the fuel pressure regulator and also cleaned the throttle body. Also cleaned the "cone" on the idle control valve. Nothing changed.

I was thinking about changing the idle control valve, but I doubt this is it because the "hiccup" is too sharp. I would think it would run rough or stumble a bit if it had to adjust the airflow. This is almost more like 2 spark plugs in sequence that stopped firing for a fraction of a second.

This is why I call it "hicupping".

Oh... two ideas I had was maybe a bad coil... it not charging up enough to fire the sparkplugs, but then I would think it would still have a problem when driving.

The other idea I had was bad gasoline, but again this should affect driving too...

I am out of ideas... any thing out there ?

thanks !
