for each of the following:
a) identify if the passage contains an argument
b) identify any cue words by circling them
c) portray the structure of the argument and
d) explain why the passage does not contain an argument if u believe it doesn't

1. You should study economics rather than philosophy or English because economics is more likely to lead to a job.

2. If free speech is a key value in our society, then we need to protect it regardless of the issue, even those we disagree with, like pornography.

3. Capital punishment is final and irreversible. Over the years, a substantial number of individuals have been wrongly convicted and executed. In addition, the burden of capital punishment has tended to fall on blacks and Aboriginals. Nonetheless, capital punishment should not be abolished.

4. Once reason has failed, we need to resort to violence to defend ourselves. and reason has failed. The only conclusion is that we must resort to violence.
