We've been married 5 years but have never spent Thanksgiving with them. I know my MIL will not have me cook in her kitchen as she's a bit of a control freak in the kitchen! But, I'd like to contribute something. We live in Seattle and I was thinking of bringing something from home- like a few bottles of wine and some smoked salmon with crackers for an appetizer. Would this be appropriate, or is there something else that would be best?
We're traveling over 2000 miles by plane.

I think that wine is always welcome and it sounds best if you keep out of her kitchen.

Your idea sounds appropriate, but check with your spouse as it's their family. I'd just advise not to try to "show up" anyone. Some wine and simple appetizer would be appreciated.

I can't tell if you are traveling by car or plane to visit the in-laws. If you are going by car, you can make a pumkin mouse which is really good.
