I am new to this board but came across it in trying to find some answers. I am much older than many of you-but young at heart. I have IBS and now GERD/reflux/ . I had an upper right side ache, had many tests to rule out gall bladder-never got an definitive answer on this. I mentioned that I waked up feeling that something was in my throat and I would not be able to swallow. That's how I found out this part is acid reflux. I was put on a PPI that helped-samples. Then the insurance co would not pay-that being off the med set my reflux into much much worse mode. Now with insurance paying I am back on it-but have gone into food feeling stuck and throat feeling puffy. I am told that it takes a week or more for this med to work.I am hoping that the PPI will help.
Does anyone know how long it takes and what can be done to help this food feeling stuck? In addition, I have had IBS for a long long time-so the PPI is messing withe the IBS-but I am dealing with that. Thanks for any help and I am so sorry for any of you in this boat. This is making me feel stressed out and I have had lots of stress in the past year-that got better and then came this. Mimi 22 boys

I definitely think there is a link between the two. I was diagnosed with "probably IBS" about 3 years ago after the colonoscopy failed to return conclusive results. Now I've been experiencing what my doctor has called "most likely acid reflux" for the last year. These both seem to be trash can diagnosis to me. The bottom line is they don't really know.
I happen to believe the catalyst for my problems was an antibiotic that was taken for acne. I wish I could remeraber the name of it. My stomach wrenched and ached for a few weeks. Shortly after that the IBS started. Has anyone else traced their digestive problems back to antibiotics? Probiotics seem to help but it's not a permanent fix.
I am currently up at 5:30am because I am having yet another new symptom that won't let me sleep. This time it is a spasm under the ribs on my left side. Every time I can't sleep from these terrible episodes it always helps to read that people have similar issues, at least it helps me not to worry so much about my heart.
