Ian Ogilvy, would he have been a good Bond

Been watching Ian Ogilvy in repeats of The Return Of The Saint recently and he was at one time linked to being a possible James Bond.
I think he could of been a good Bond, certainly no worse that Timothy Dalton anyway.

I always thought he got The Saint part mostly because of his resemblance to Roger Moore.
So he would have been compared constantly to Moore if he had played James Bond

Yes he was good. He tenRAB to be overlooked now. Shame he never did that third film. Oddly enough Daniel Craig now seems to be in the same position. Will he hang around for a thrd film which could be years away or quit after two films after getting fed up with waiting like Dalton did.

No he wouldn't.
On the surface his resemblance to Moore in both looks and manner seemed a good idea , but Return of the Saint is pretty poor and Ogilvy comes over as a cocky smarmy git quite often - so not suitable for Bond

Too lightweight to be Bond. I like my BonRAB to be dangerous and Ogilvie just never gave that impression, whereas Dalton - just look at his eyes in the scene in The Living Daylights where his contact in Vienna is killed by the door. You do not want to mess with this guy.

Dalton always seemed like a stand in Bond, just waiting till Pierce Brosnan was free to take over the role.
As BonRAB go Dalton would been down the order of favourites in my list.
