i870 Software Update

Hi , im new on this website but i came here hopin somebody could answer my question. I bought a i870 about 1 month ago and everything was fine but then after like 2 weeks ago my phone would turn on and just stay on the i870 screen, took it in to the store and they said your software is outdated so im like can u update it, they said they cant because your phone has no sticker (I bought it from a Friend) Now i spent about 180 on the phone that simply is not broken but nextel wont update it, so is their anyway i can update it myself off the internet or downgrade it to the last firmware? Thanks in advance
 
appreciate the help guys but i dont know that much about nextels , so if I buy the usb cord and a software CD its possible to fix my 870 cause it was workin fine till one day it i turned it on and it stayed on the i870 screen. thanks guys

(oh yea no insurance thats why i want to do it myself without nextel if thats possible) Thanks again
 
appreciate it man, now i have another problem my phone wont recharge!? I have no idea whats wrong wit it now i think my 870 is done (it was almost brand NEW!!!)
 
my fault, but i charged my battery right it turns on to the white i870 screen then shuts off like 5 seconds later....... is there any hope for the phone ? Should i just trash it? REALLLLY APPRECIATE IT!!
