What is wrong with the stuck up judges in this country?
They're all old, nobody knows them, they have no sympathy for victims and think (for some unknown reason) that being a criminal is an illness. So all our tax payers money goes on rehab for the local smack head that beat up the grannies on pension day!The U.K. legal system is a joke!

Why cant we vote in our own trusted judges like the U.S.?
At least it would give them an incentive to please the population instead retaining their books or hitting rehab targets......

Are you guys pleased with your legal system?
 
Quite an interesting opinion. But like any legal system, wether you vote the judges in, you will always and good and bad judges, regardless of it being the American or English legal system. Every system of law is open to abuse and bad decisions.


I cant agree with you opinion that judges have no sympathy for the victims, I do think that the law is heavily weighs in favor of the right of Defendants, the victims due to this right frequently get dragged through long and drawn out processes which in many cases seems unfair. But everyone has a right to a fair trial. I do think than minimum sentencing for certain crimes in this county should be introduced i.e rape etc. This may act as a deterent in some cases. The Courts should be given less descretion in sentencing on a guilty conviction. I dont think Americanising is the answer.
 
Yeah, I don't think Americanising is the solution either. Because then, our country would be all like, "Well Britian is using it, It can't be right!" Thus, causing us to abloish our legal system in favor of doing something in the exact opposite way of Britain yet again.

Edit: And as a footnote, why does England, have like 47 names to describe the same place? Britain, England, United Kingdom... It confuses me and I rather don't like that.
 
Great Britain, is a collective term for all parts of the islands. United Kingdom, is what you yanks would call political - because it connotes the Monarchy, which is something of a hot issue at times.

England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, however; are what you yanks call 'the states', with London - our Capital, in England (where the Queen lives, occasionally).

However, I believe Scotland now has it's own independent parliment, whether Monarch rules in Scotland I dunno...but we definately have her face on English currency.

I'm pretty sure you can rely on your own microcosm of life to relate to the UK. Part of logical thinking is division via catagory. This forum itself, as does the internet and a computer, define and catagorise thus uniting and dividing for solutions.

The basic understanding of mathematics relating to a philosophy - such as with Plato's numerological idea that 1 is perfect and all the other numbers are but reflections (divisions) of 1 only to return to 1 after a rather curious but mystical 9 digits. The number that always returns to itself, being 9, when mathematically cunjoured to do so, but yet cannot be divided unless a triad is formed, thus the nature of the triads in Jewish Lore. Three, is the magic number ;)

Therefore, the reflections of the flesh are threefold, the states of mind in man during evolution is thus related to the triad of nature, because we ourselves are the greatest reflection of nature in ourselves. We belong to the group that defines the group. That is how 'special' we are, to a certain extent.

THE U.S. legal system is a morass of ineptitude, greedy lawyers, and corruption IMO. You can get a fair shake, but it's going to cost you a lot of money to do it. Everyone I know is afraid of the cops, even the good law abiding citizens who vote republican. Of course it may be OUR local legal system that is so scary, but I hear plenty from all over about it enough to feel it's nationwide. There are exceptions, but for the most part the best way to deal with the legal system in the USA is not to at all.

People have gone to prison for life, no parole, for stealing a candy bar, Third Strike law anyone.

When the DNA tests got good, how many people had to be let off death row?

i'm guessing you haven't actually been here? only seen it on tv or in movies?
america is a divided nation and as such half the people don't want what the other half value.. so with the 9 judicial appointments there is either 4 or 5 that you won't like and that don't have your values. which makes it seem worse. add to that the chance that the present leader can simply appoint someone in a worse case scenario, and you have something you shouldn't aspire to.
sorry if the british judicial system recently caused you grief, but the answer for reform isn't over here, try the netherlands, belgium, or switzerland..
 
actually I would rather have a system that tries to rehab...As it is now in america if you commit a crime you go to jail... unless your rich... but for the most part you go to jail... and for months.. or years you do nothing but sit there.. lift weights, watch tv, and get passed around for a pack of ciggerettes.. you get out and now, if you happen to be rehabilitated from being in jail, which most arent, you try to get a job..

oh wait.. now you cant get a job because you MUST report to an employer that you were in jail and what you did... and certainly no employer wants an excon working for them... so now you cant get a job... your on welfair.. and start robbing places for cash to survive... If you weren't rehabilitated which is the more common case because getting paid 2 dollars a day to sit on your ass at taxpayer expense doesnt teach you shit.. you go out and rape, rob, and murder your ass off...

the american justice system blows...

We HATE OURS HERE. It's all "PUNISHMENT, PUNISHMENT, PRISON RAPE LOL," never any kind of remose or rehab, especially in the Southern redneck states which sadly have all the power right now.

One of the reasons our crime rate is so high is because we just stick criminals in a shithole for a few years, and just let 'em out into the open.

Our justice system is fucked up. I have lots of reasons for saying so, but in my county if a bitch cries rape, you go to jail, trial is a fucking joke, and you go to prison. No DNA. No physical evidence. No witnesses other than her. Even if you have an alibi, it will be discounted because it is your family. fuck the us law system.
