...i would get from a wind? ....turbine.

basically i would like to see if it would be worth getting a wind turbine, a small one, basically 2.5 kw. i will be puttin it in the garden to do my bit and using the energy for light, batteries etc. though

1) i do not know my wind speed!
2) i live in a suburban area


1) how do you measure, basic intructions !!! links please to buy the wind turbine?


2) HOW muc can 2.5 kw do? e.g. let you watch on average a tv for an hour or leave your lights on all day (if you really wanted to do)

I would suggest placing the turbine on top of your roof or on a pole in your garden; the fencing around your house, other houses, and trees, will block wind in low areas.

Have you considered solar panels; they are becoming more affordable and would likely work better in a suburban area.

I actually know a bit about this cause i have one in my garden and i am on management committee for a village hall in yorkshire. Get a device called a anometre and this will measure you wind speed anything under 5.1 metre per second and it usually wont be efficient enough. A good company to look at wind turbine is the a company called proven or another company call sun-dog energy i think they both have links to wind speed databases and they will tell you to your area what your wind speed is. if your connected to the grid any surplus's you can sell back to the grid. about 1.5 will run and average house so a 2.5 will provide to you house and sell some to grid which is fairly easy. There also Rocs which can earn you extra money as well.
