I wonder if Azulon really put some thought in his order for Ozai to kill Zuko.

He wanted Ozai to kill Zuko, because in his words "Iroh has suffered enough". But surely he knows that Zuko is important to Iroh, thus it would be even more of a blow to hear that his nephew died.

Thoughts?

So...what're you suggesting otherwise?Ozai kill Azula instead, his crowning jewel? (Literally crowning) And besides,Zuko and Ozai didn't begin to grow real close until after Ursa left and Iroh returned home.

He would have been better off executing Ozai, but hey I don't think Iroh would be thrilled of anyone in his family dying. As far as Zuko and Iroh's closeness, someone made this comment on tv.com:

You're also assuming that Ozai was telling the truth. Whatever his positive attributes are, being an honest, forthright, and stand-up guy isn't one of them.

Actually it was young Azula who first broke the news of Azulon's dastardly orders. So far what we do know is this:

1. Azulon grew irate w/ Ozai when he suggested Azulon revoke Iroh's birth rite as Azulon's successor.

2. To punish Ozai's brash request, he was commanded to kill Zuko, so he'd know the pain of losing a firstborn son.

3. Azula overheard the order and tauntingly warned Zuko of his pending fate.

4. Ursa caught wind of what was to transpire and confronted Ozai. In a compromise to spare Zuko's life, Ursa likely volunteered to kill Azulon.

5. As for Ozai eclipsing Iroh as the successor to the throne, I imagine he forged a document shortly before Azulon's death to ensure he'd rule the Fire Nation rather than his elder brother.

If we do see Ursa later this season, I'm certain all will be revealed.

Well, yeah, but my point is that we don't actually KNOW all of that. We've been TOLD all of that, and our only sources for this information are Azula and Ozai, both of whom have been known to lie to or manipulate Zuko in the past. Admittedly, their explanations agree with each other on broad strokes and explain we've seen so far, but Writers Are Tricksy and they could be lying to us, too.

The only involved party that I'd trust with what really happened would be Ursa, but she wasn't exactly forthcoming when she left.

(I'm also saying this with no knowledge of what's aired in Canada, so if all the above is disproved by "The Firebending Master," I DON'T WANNA KNOW SO DON'T TELL ME LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!! :))
