potential to become a good poet? A poem that I have written called: The Compass And The Night Skies

Bless the stars that guided me, as I used the North star to help find you as I lost you to the night skies. I have traveled to the East just to see your smile light up the dawn, and have sailed home to the West to get lost in your eyes again. Our love, and affection has always raised the temperature like the summer nights in the South. My heart is then replaced with a compass, the instrument that has been used time and time again to find ones misguided half. The four directions in my compass has always pointed straight to you

put that in poem form and you'll be on top of the world, but it's a bit hard to see it as a poem in that structure...i don't know whether that's intentional or not, but it stood out to me...great adjectives though...it made my heart melt like butter!

Candidly, if you hadn't told me it was a poem, I'd never have guessed. I'm probably very old-fashioned, but when I hear the word poem, I expect things like rhyme and metre.

Also; if you're going to be a writer (whether of prose or verse) it helps to use the English language correctly. "Our love and affection has...." "Ones misguided half...." "The four directions of my compass has....." Deary me.

Sorry, but you did ask.
