I was wandering why do girls like guys that treat them like crap?

I don't understand why girls like the guys that treat them like crap.....in my opinion I think I'm one of the nicest and sweetest guys you will ever meet and I have had my fair share of girlfriends but every time I start to treat them how any girl would want to be treated, they leave me to date a guy who treats them like crap. So I want to know should I change and become an asshole to be able to keep a girl or should I keep being the sweet guy and hope a girl comes along? Thanks
