I was thinking of getting my hair "dusted", to trim off any split ends and damage...?

I am planning to grow my hair out. I only want to "dust my hair" and cut off a tiny bit at the ends. Should i have it done at the salon, or just at home??

Also, if i shouldn't dust, how much should i cut off?
